The Haddad Entrepreneurship Institute is part of the Nova SBE - Portugal

"Empowering entrepreneurial minds"

Summary

The Nova SBE Haddad Entrepreneurship Institute is dedicated to changing the world by harnessing the potential of every entrepreneur. We support new businesses at all stages, develop entrepreneurial skills in students and professionals, and share knowledge on various topics, trends, and methodologies. We stand out due to our integration with a leading university, our close connection with students and academics, and our focus on three main pillars: Education & Capacity Building: We develop skills and promote an entrepreneurial mindset in our students. Entrepreneurship teaches valuable skills not only for those starting businesses but also for careers in consulting, industrial management, and large companies, where creativity, problem-solving, resilience, execution, and teamwork are crucial. Acceleration & Incubation: We provide networks and resources for startups to thrive through our incubation, acceleration, and open innovation programs. Our dynamic environment and proximity to top-tier students make our community very attractive to entrepreneurs. We currently have two virtual incubation communities, including one focused on the web3 sphere, with over 160 startups connected to the institute. Research & Thought Leadership: We bridge the gap between entrepreneurship and scientific research, connecting academics, the scientific community, practitioners, and policymakers. Our goal is to convert practice into learning and share this knowledge to help grow the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

IMPACT STORY

Impacting lifes

Over the past two years, our institute has engaged with numerous students, startups, researchers, and corporations. Our efforts in acceleration programs and open innovation have naturally sparked innovation within the corporate world and fostered new business opportunities between SMEs and startups. The support we provide to entrepreneurs incubated at Haddad has already led to the growth and expansion of startups, opening doors for many founders to form new partnerships. A recent example is an alumnus who participated in our mentorship program and is now on the verge of launching his new venture, Cura.

Recently, we concluded the third edition of the Startup Summer Experience, a program that offers students from various fields the chance to tackle real-world challenges presented by startups. In addition to the hands-on experience, we built a collaborative community over five weeks that enhances learning through workshops and inspirational talks on entrepreneurship. This year, seven startups extended prolonged internship offers to these students, demonstrating the effective matchmaking and support provided by the program.

LEARNINGS

Lessons learned

One of the greatest lessons from our work with students and startups is the critical importance of adaptability in an ever-evolving field. By tailoring our programs and support based on feedback, we continuously improve our initiatives and services to meet the diverse needs of our community.

We actively invest in fostering collaboration among students, academics, and industry professionals. Our experience with cross-disciplinary approaches has shown that they lead to more innovative solutions and successful outcomes.

At HEI, we prioritize empowering team members and stakeholders, including students and startup founders, to take ownership and lead initiatives. This empowerment not only drives innovation but also promotes personal growth. A clear vision for innovation and entrepreneurship is essential for guiding our strategy and aligning efforts across our programs.

We cultivate a growth mindset and a culture of continuous learning and resilience. We encourage experimentation and support initiatives that allow students and startups to explore new ideas without fear of failure. This approach is reinforced by our investment in building and maintaining robust networks with academia, industry leaders, and entrepreneurs, enhancing resource availability, collaboration opportunities, and support.

FUTURE PLANS

What's coming?

Our goal of making the Nova SBE Haddad Entrepreneurship Institute a leading center remains alive and is a medium to long-term objective. Since its official launch, we have consolidated initiatives targeting various stakeholders, impacting over 1,500 students and about 500 startups in the past year alone.

We continue with the same ambition, and our efforts are already showing results. Notably, the EDUNIVERSAL Ranking recently placed the innovation and entrepreneurship stream of our Master's in Management 6th in the Top 50 worldwide, ahead of internationally recognized schools.

We aim to empower thousands of students and support the development of startups to ensure their success. Academia plays a fundamental role in this mission. On our second anniversary, we centered our event on 'growth,' promoting the 'growth mindset' related to entrepreneurial thinking and focusing on our institute's growth and its impact on the ecosystem and the country's economic development.

We recognize that academic research is not yet fully utilized by the business community, but we are committed to bridging this gap by sharing knowledge and providing useful tools for new entrepreneurs.

Continuing our mission and making an impact on the national and international ecosystem is our goal.
